Displacement
Susmita Paul
Clutching to thin air, in an alien world it screams,
Its lungs push out that which had nourished it till now.
Whether the osmosis of life ends here or begins
Will determine the fatal flaw.
I lie numbed by the plethora of journeys I had undertaken,
It fishes for the scents it had in the other life.
As its protruding eyes bubble bath my form, it hears
A quivering voice echoing a dream from another life.
What could be is now in front of my eyes.
What could be is there in this pulsating meat ball.
Breaking down the bones one sums up life.
Breaking soluble boundaries of being
A finite existence begins. Once more
Only so many of the bones can break
At the break of dawn.
